J.K. Rowling's commencement speech at Harvard University

It's very touching and thought-provoking, what she has to say.

  1. I truly believe she is a genius and that her work and words will stand the test of time and take its place among the greatest literature of all time. How one woman can demonstrate so much eloquence is both awesome and inspiring to me. I think it is cool that I got to share a timeline with her.

  2. You know I am a hard-core fan, but I can't share your optimism about her place in the pantheon of literature. *But* I have to say that despite her love of say-isms, her work is original, complex, and amazingly coherent, and she herself is one-in-a-million. She has given a whole generation a gift of imagination that will be showing its effects for years to come. And her personal generosity and engagement in different causes is a source of inspiration; reading the text of her speech, I wanted to run out and join the closest Amnesty International on the spot. I don't know that AI by itself could have inspired that feeling in me, as much as I acknowledge the good they are doing.
